Peaks Top Farm is based just outside the Lincolnshire village of New Waltham
The farm was built over 200 years ago, and the Clayton family have been farming here since the 1920’s. During that time the farm has seen huge changes, moving from a large farming workforce supported by horse power to modern day mechanisation. In the early days we focused on beef cattle and dairy farming, but over time this focus has changed to more diverse activities ranging from cereal, fruit farming, to making our very own fruit wine. We are enthusiastic about what we do and are happy to discuss any of our activities and produce. We look forward to welcoming you to the farm!
We have been growing soft fruit for sale on the farm for the past 30 years. Originally a small area of strawberries were grown as a sideline to the farming business. Now the soft fruit at Peaks Top Farm includes over 2 hectares of strawberries, a ‘table-top’ strawberry growing system, 5 poly-tunnels plus outdoor bush and cane fruit such as raspberries, black and redcurrants along with 3 varieties of gooseberries. New for 2016 we have planted a variety of blueberries called Juke.
Our fruit season usually starts mid June until late July depending on the weather. Strawberries and gooseberries begin the season, with the raspberries, red and blackcurrants towards the end of June through July.
We are open 7 days a week through the main season 10am – 5pm. We welcome all members of the public to come to the farm and ‘pick your own’ fruit. At a little extra cost we have a ready picked service for all our fruit if you don’t have the time to pick your own.
Our blackberries come into fruit later in the year; generally around August.
Once October arrives we move into our orchard to begin picking apples and plums. We grow 4 varieties of apples (Scrumptious, Russet and Falstaff eaters and Bramley cooking apples). The 2 varieties of plums are Victoria and Czar.
Depending on yield we also aim to have rhubarb available in season.
We’ve been making our Fabulously Fruity range of fruit wines since 2012 using traditional methods with fruit grown here on our very own fruit farm.
We currently plant over 10 acres of fruit each year for our wine which is continuing to grow in popularity as more people experience the unique flavours.
We regularly hold free wine tastings at the farm every Saturday afternoon between 12pm and 4pm. We can guarantee you won’t be leaving empty handed!

A medium sweet rounded flavour from 3 varieties of dessert apple. The addition of Bramley apples balance the sweetness and provides a sharper edge. Best served chilled. Refreshing to drink on its own but compliments a variety of dishes. Especially good with pork and cheese. At Christmas our apple wine with added ingredients is renowned for creating a delicious mulled wine.
A deep velvety red colour, smooth richly flavoured wine. The medium to full bodied taste gives a lively burst of pure blackcurrants. The aroma intensifies the whole experience. Best served at room temperature, this medium sweet blackcurrant wine can be partnered with red meat, game and venison. A good glug included in a casserole brings an extra depth of flavour! A real winter warmer but equally at home made into a fresh summer spritzer.
Beautifully smooth red wine with the full flavour of ripe brambles. This perfectly balanced bramble wine provides a mellow body giving a medium sweet finish to the palate. The aroma is reminiscent of autumn hedgerows. A very versatile wine that can be enjoyed on its on or enhances all types of dishes.
A clean, crisp white wine. A surprisingly smooth, delightful fresh flavour of gooseberry with the absence of the expected sharp edge. A light to medium bodied gooseberry wine recommended to be enjoyed straight from the fridge.
Pasta, chicken and fish dishes are classic combinations for this wine.
Perfect for those with a drier palate, this crisp white dry gooseberry wine is similar to a Sauvignon Blanc. Served chilled it is light and refreshing and great for drinking socially. Enjoy with salads, fish and poultry.
Similar in characteristics to the white gooseberry wine. Red gooseberries are slightly sweeter than their white counterpart which produces a fine rose coloured wine. These unfamiliar berries are more commonly used as a dessert fruit but they make a versatile red gooseberry wine suitable for any occasion.
This is our sweetest wine. The aroma adds depth to the intense strawberry flavour and immediately evokes memories of long summer days. Our farm grown berries are handpicked and selected to give us the quality required for our superior strawberry wine. This pretty pink dessert wine is a sensational taste of summer. Served chilled the sweetness is reduced, adding some tonic water has the same effect. An excellent base for making fruit cocktails and punches with the addition of fresh fruit.
A very rare wine produced from our redcurrants. These attractive berries are used regularly in jams and preserves. Our special recipe produces a light wine with a vibrant rose colour. Astonishingly pretty in a glass, this redcurrant wine is to be enjoyed and served however you desire.
This refreshing, light rhubarb wine shows a hint of pink from the succulent young rhubarb plants. The tender sticks are harvested as soon as they are ripe. The flavour of which comes through as a delicate after taste on your palate.
Served chilled the rhubarb balances well with creamy desserts and cheese and biscuits.
A pale wine with deceptively more body than the colour suggests. It has been compared to a warming red wine. Smooth, medium dry, it is recommended to be served at room temperature. Superb alone or with casseroles and red meat.
The sloe harvest varies from year to year which makes the availability of this limited edition sloe wine unpredictable. Get it while you can!
